UPDATED March 22nd 2008
A trip to Chicks Beach brought a good day on Friday; it was a work/hooky day for me and Jackson.
We started on the beach in front of Alexander’s on the Bay where Jackson met Cocoa a 7 month old Rottweiler.
With Jackson being a year and a half Border Collie he had plenty of energy to play with a 7 month old pup.
After a session on the beach it was off to Alexander’s to meet the new Chef.
Lynn Brewer has returned as the head Chef for Alexander’s on the Bay and is really stirring things up in the kitchen and pallets of patrons.
He's back! The kid Lynn Brewer has come home. After spending the last seven years at Steinhilber's, Lynn has returned to Alexander's on the Bay. The restaurant he helped open with the name sake A.G. (Angie) Alexander in 1984.
He brings back his love for classic dishes and a zest for introducing new twist on a variety of local seafood. Lynn believes in keeping his cuisine simple without cover-ups and being pretentious ... a truly humble chef.
According to Lynn Alexander’s will be introducing an all new menu just in time for spring that is sure to tempt even the most discriminating pallets on the East Coast. Check out Lynn’s Mug and bio here: Alexander's New Chef Bio and Mug

HK on the Bay and The Almost Famous Band put on a Great Saturday night in Chicks Beach.
It was Saturday May 12th The Alost Famous Band was playing their first gig in Chicks Beach since the close of the Café and fittingly so it happened to be at HK on the Bay.
We started the night letting the valet park our car at Alexander’s on the bay for a sunset “Favorite Beverage” at the bar. Valerie took great care of us as we met friends who were also going to see the show. After a few “Favorite Beverages" it was off to HK on the Bay for the show.
From the images below you can see what a great time was had by all. As well as you can see some of the hotties HK has working for them and the service was great even with the crowd.
All the regular faces from the area where there to support one of the areas greatest bar bands The Almost Famous Band. They Rocked! Their was even a surprise appearance on the fiddle by the areas most well known fiddle player Charlie Austin.
A great time was had by all and responsibility ensued when at the end of the night the limousines from Park Ave Limousines where called out for rides home. Don’t forget to call Park Ave Limousines for a ride home if you have had too much to drink.(757) 461-1331 It’s a cheap one way fare with no minimum time limit and the drivers are great!
Enjoy the pics below.

Who says HK on the Bay doesn’t have live entertainment? This past Saturday was a blast with this band…anyone know their name? we forgot and lost their cards but they really jammed. It was a great night with great food and great service. Finely a place you can count on that’s on the corner of Fentress and Lookout.
The best practice would be to start at Alexander’s on the Bay for a sunset beverage at the greatest bar and bartenders in Chicks Beach, after a “Favorite Beverage” or three walk two blocks west and stop in HK on the Bay.
And for those of you that have not experienced HK on the Bay yet, take note… this is a non-smoking restaurant that means no more smoky clothes and hair at the end of the night. But fear not smokers, there’s a nice patio and cover to go outside for a smoke.
Here are just a few pics from the night at HK. You should check it out. Click the small images for the larger versions

Another weekend has come and gone in Chicks Beach.
We started with the intention of starting with something to eat at the bar in Alexander’s on the Bay. There were more than a few people with this idea. The scenery is great there at night, with the lights of the Bay Bridge Tunnel reflecting off the water shining into the bar. I was a warm night Saturday and the door to the bar was left open. The moon was an incredible site as it rose from the south over the bay.
Shannon was on hand and ready with her new shooter called the “Sneak Attack”. A couple of these and you’ll know where it got its name. We left Alexander’s on the Bay with intentions of heading to the Parrot but we eneded up at HK on the Bay instead. We had a few “Favorite Beverages” and then realized we should call a Limo to take us home.
The manager at HK had no problem with us leaving the truck in the lot all night and so that’s what we did.
10 minutes later a brand new Lincoln Town Car pulled up out front. I was one of our favorite drivers Len. Lan came in and let us know he was there and that we could take our time and finish our beverages. After that it was history, Len brought us home and everyone was safe.
Again thanks to Park Ave. Limousines (757) 461-1331 for providing us a safe alternative to getting home after enjoying our “Favorite Beverage”.
The next morning some friends wanted to have breakfast. We explained the Truck was left at HK so we decided to get the truck and head to the Parrot for breakfast.
Now we are all Mimosa drinkers for breakfast but were real impressed by the new Bloody Mary Bar at the Parrot. This thing had all a bloody Mary lover could think of, from horse radish to celery and hot sauce everything was there for your customized Bloody Mary.
Our friends had never been to the Parrot for breakfast. Every Sunday we go out with them for breakfast. This Sunday they were especially impressed with the breakfast the Green Parrot had to offer. “That was the best breakfast pound for pound in Virginia Beach” said my one friend. Even his 6 years old son put a hefty dent in his stack of three large pancakes. (he/s very finicky when it comes to pancakes).
We ended the morning at the Parrot talking to the man in Chicks Beach who’s been there for years the “G man” ,“Pound for Pound the largest man in Chicks Beach”
The morning was nice and called for a stroll on the beach before heading home. The tide was very high Sunday Morning and there were a few fishermen out there but not much biting, just saw one guy throwing a mirror lure and landed one trout about a pound and a half. We walked back to the truck and headed home. Man what another great weekend in the hood. You couldn’t have asked for better weather. Lets hope it stays nice like this for a while. We’re not quit ready for winter yet.

New Years in Chicks Beach was a great way to start 2007.
Many folks opted for the meal at one of the four places down there for dinner and continued through out the night with a favorite beverage stopping by many of the places after dinner sort of bar hopping in a way.
The big winners of the night and into the early AM was The Green Parrot Grille. They had an excellent dinner of Steak and Lobster that included a bottle of champagne and for those that got a little tipsy there was of coarse a free limousine ride home from Midnight until 3:00PM. And you could leave your car parked overnight with worrying about being towed. That by far was the nicest touch put on by a restaurant in Chicks Beach. A special thanks to J.R. and Laurie for such a great idea. A lot of fun was had by many and all who celebrated the New Year at The Green Parrot.
The 2007 2nd Annual Chicks Beach Martini Classic shaping up. Already there are 14 Judges who have been accepted. Theirs a new Book Review from Trixy at Trixy’s Corner. Sons of Fortune by Jeffrey Archer. This is probably her best review yet! You must see it here!
We hope everyone had a good, happy and safe holiday season. Were starting to make the turn. Already the sun sets one minute later each day. It won’t be long before a “Favorite Sunset Beverage” at Alexander’s on the Bay will be in order.

The Green Parrot Grille is still pouring Happy Hour from 12:00 noon to 8:00PM with $1.50 domestic bottles, well drinks and $2.00 Coronas and Heinekens. Tuesday night is the night at the Green Parrot Grille. Besides that an incredible musician calls the Parrot home on Tuesday nights starting at 8:30PM (Dahna Rowe and the Diablo’s) every Tuesday night. There is a new Hotness behind the bar at the Parrot, and her initials are Sarah. Sarah is a seasoned bartender with the super capabilities to anticipate your every move and she’s right there with “Your Favorite Beverage”. You can check out photos from last Tuesday at the Parrot and see Dahna Rowe here: http://www.greenparrotgrille.com/photos-004.html
Now for the Chicks Beach rumors.
Some one or several people are spreading the rumor that HK on the Bay has said “They will bury the Parrot” we heard that and know this didn’t come from the owners. We know Kevin and Brian very well. Then another rumor came out much the same as the first but this time it was quoted that HK on the Bay is saying “We’re going to bury Alexander’s on the Bay”
This is all BS rumors. HK on the Bay is a fresh new place, still getting things together and sampling the neighborhoods tastes. No one is going to “Bury” anyone. That’s not what HK is about. Who ever is spreading these rumors is a punk. We finally got a decent respectable business on the corner of Fentress and Lookout, lets give them the time to get their operations together before dragging them into a pissing match between establishments. Apparently these rumors are coming from folks that don’t have anything to do with HK anyway so when you hear them you should disregard them and consider the source…the original source.
Don’t forget January 27th is the 2nd annual Chicks Beach Martini Classic. We are still accepting applications for judges for the classic. As a judge you will be picked up in a limousine and brought to each of the 4 ABC licensed restaurants in Chicks Beach to sample what they consider their best Martini. Judges will be driven home after the final Martini tasting and the final vote on this years winner.
Judges are responsible for purchasing their own “Favorite Beverage” and Martini at each place in order to be able to vote. If nothing else it’s a free ride in a limo that night. Limousines are being provided by Park Ave. Limousines. (757) 461-1331 Better call and book now for New Years as they are filling up fast.
You can register for the Martini Classic by registering at the ChicksBeach.com message board http://www.chicks-beach.com/phpBB2/
So far there are 8 Judges for the 2nd Annual Chicks Beach Martini Classic. There are only a few spots left so sign up fast to be a judge!

HK on the Bay takes Chicks Beach by storm in one night.
We were invited to a friends and family only night at HK on the Bay. This was the first night they were open and running everything.
We were greeted at the door where we were told our table was waiting. As soon as we sat our waitress came to tell us about the evening and take our drink orders.
Less than 3 minutes after we received our drinks an appetizer was on the table with a plate for each of us.
The order of the night was that they were testing all the appetizers.
One after another each of the appetizers on the menu was delivered to our table. After all the appetizers our waitress asked if we were ready to order…whew! We just had a load of food, but we went for it anyway.
I had the Blackened Tuna and Laurie had the filet. Just as it was in Hells Kitchen on Granby St. so was the preparation of our meals at HK on the Bay. Everything was cooked to perfection.
An overall description of the night would include words like “amazing” Superb” “Incredible” “Delicious” “Excellence” just to name a few words.

ChicksBeach.com gives the proverbial two thumbs up to Kevin and Brian for a job well done in a relatively short amount of time. They have successfully changed that old building on the corner of Lookout and Fentress into a reputable business and an incredible restaurant. The staff was beautiful and courteous, anticipating your next desire.
One thing that’s very different is the way the dining room is set up.
There’s a window from the dining room that looks into the kitchen so you have an opportunity to watch your meal being prepared. (Nice Touch Kevin and Brian)
So it goes without saying you must visit HK on the Bay. They are open to the public Monday December 4th so make time and take your significant other out on a date they will not soon forget. From the interior decoration, to the new layout and bar, to the perfection cooked into each plate that comes out of the kitchen.
Now after filling our bellies with some of the best food to come out of that building in decades Jimmy Banks the limo driver took us to the Green Parrot were we picked up some friends. We first went to Alexander’s on the Bay. Alexander’s has done it again with the decorating of the entire restaurant and bar with thousands of Santa Claus’s. The rumor is that if you can guess how many Santa’s are displayed there is some sort of prize involved.
Once again Valerie was behind the bar serving everyone’s favorite beverage. A good time was had by all at the greatest Bar in Chicks Beach. We closed them down early and headed back to the Limo. Jimmy stopped at a friends house where we stocked up on Champaign and we were back on the road again. Jimmy drove us around looking at the Christmas lights as we sipped our drinks.
We dropped our friends off later in the night and ended up at the Green Parrot for a night cap. There we are again with a “Favorite Beverage” in hand when the ugly lights get turned on… yup it was last call. We tabbed out and good Ole’ Jimmy had the Limo parked out front waiting patiently for us to exit. He helped us into the limo and drove us home for the night.
It goes without saying that a couple hundred bucks for a limo for the night sure beats $25,000.00 for a DUI and possible harm to us or others. Yes we talk a lot about enjoying our “Favorite Beverage” to excess but we always practice responsibility before we even have our first “Favorite Beverage” We call 461-1331 and talk to Bruce, we let him know our plans and he replies with the name of a driver and car type and then lets you go. Within a few short minutes a call comes from the driver letting us know, he has our number; he is on the way and will call if he gets lost looking for you. Park Ave. Limousines is a real first class organization with first class transportation and courteous drivers that know their way around the area very well.
Go ahead, call 461-1331 and treat your significant other to a first class date with a Limo ride to HK on the Bay and enjoy the evening from there.

HK on the Bay UPDATE
A new era in dining in Chicks Beach is about to take place and we as Chicks Beach locals are here to witness it first hand. The New shinny solid Brass Bar The opening date is nearing for HK on the Bay. December 1st is open by invite only for friends and employees. Monday December 4th is the “soft” opening to the public. I investigated the progress of the construction and saw that they are well on their way to the Friday opening. The Art work was already in place with original art from local artist Corey Campbell, the booths along the wall with the windows facing Fentress are installed and just awaiting table tops. Other than that the floor still needs work and the tables and chairs need to be brought in. After that they seem ready to go. Original art from local artist Corey Campbell. Original art from local artist Corey Campbell. Original art from local artist Corey Campbell. The view to the kitchen is open so customers can view the preparation of thier food. Mark your calendars to stop by HK on the Bay Monday December 4th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11/13/2006 7:11PM Speeding and Tipping… Two things that seem to be becoming more and more popular, or rather increasing with displeasure of the neighborhood is the speeding that occurs and the lack of tipping. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11/1/2006 11:05PM The Green Parrot Grille Hosted thier First Halloween Party ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11/1/2006 7:34PM Pics from Halloween 2006 at The Green Parrot Grille in Chicks Beach ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10/30/2006 8:26PM Halloween Weekend in Chicks Beach There’s much to be said about a Holiday weekend in Chicks Beach. Halloween is on Tuesday this year so most folks celebrated during the weekend as Tuesday is a school night.
Friday night started at one of our favorite places, Alexander’s in The Bay. One of the newer Bartenders Jeremy was taking good care of us making sure we always had a full “Favorite Beverage” And as you can see by the photos, Plenty of “Favorite Beverages” were to be had. As a regular to the Bar at Alexander’s its easy to get caught up with all the other locals and before you know it you’re the last people in the restaurant, the Valet brings your keys and tells you your vehicle is in front of the door for when you are ready to leave. Those Alexander’s Valet guys are great. Their fast courteous and take care of the ladies first when pulling in or leaving. The next time you visit Alexander’s on the Bay make sure you carry a few bills so you can tip these guys. Its getting cold out and they stay outside waiting for you, so show your appreciation when they give you the finest service in Valet parking in Virginia Beach.
After a few “Favorite Beverages” served up by the "Quickest Pour in the East", Bartender Jeremy from Alexander’s on The Bay, it was off to a secret watering hole in Chicks Beach. One of the nicer underground hangs in Chicks Beach this place offered a fully stocked bar, 2 TVs and a roaring Fireplace. The bar was spacious for just enough people to make a small party. Food was served and after a Few “Favorite Beverages” served up by the host it was off to the Parrot to finish the night. BTW it was a Friend having friends over for a “Favorite Beverage” compliments of the host. AND NO!! THIS ISNT BEETLES HOUSE!"
Our time there was enjoyed responsibly as old friends and acquaintances got together to exchange stories about what’s been going on in our lives during the work week and since we last saw each other.
As you can see the Green Parrot Grille in Chicks Beach attracts some of the more attractive females in the area. Here you can see that not only are the Green Parrot bartenders easy on the eyes, their hottie friends often come to the bar to visit them after work.
Needless to say this was another one of those nights when we had to call Park Ave. Limousines to help us out of a jam. The Parrot was nice enough to allow us to leave our vehicles there for the night and the Limo pulled up right at last call to scoop us into the back for a safe ride home. Remember A limo ride is cheaper than a DUI any day or night. Do everyone a favor, especially for your friends and loved ones and other in the community. If you have had a few “Favorite Beverage” Call Park Ave. Limos. They have a nice fleet of cars with very reasonable prices for getting you home if you have a few too many. Call 461-1331. Explain that you need a ride because you’ve had a few too many and Park Ave will be right there for you with no minimum time charge. Ask for the Chicks Beach Discount for a safe ride home and the owner himself will set you a great price for being responsible enough to not try to drive home your self. All of the Park Ave Limo drivers are very familiar with the Chicks Beach area. Chance are if you’ve seen a limo in the hood it was Park Ave. saving someone a DUI and possible the life of you or the person being driven. Don’t forget they offer a full service for special occasions, Birthdays, Bachelor and Bachelorette Party’s and more. We even used them to take a group of us to FedEx field for a Redskins game one time, now that’s fun!
Now for some more fun that wasn’t exactly inside Chicks Beach. Here are a few Photos of how some of the local Bartenders enjoy their birthday. This one photo is a birthday bartender executing the infamous “Keg Stand”. The beer was ICE COLD so brain freezes were common this night. But there’s nothing that will take care of a brain freeze like a dip in a 102 degree Hot Tub.
Much fun was had inside and outside Chicks Beach. A special thanks for a wonderfully fun weekend goes out to Alexander’s On the Bay for providing for a relaxed jump start to the weekend. Everyone should visit the finest bar in Chicks Beach with the greatest view in all of Virginia Beach. Thanks to close friends who invited us to the secret underground bar for a “Favorite Beverage”. Thanks to the Green Parrot Grille for firing up the fryer at last call so a few people that had a few too many “Favorite Beverages” could get some food on their stomachs to soak up the excess alcohol before leaving. Another thanks to Green Parrot for offering worry free over night parking to encourage responsibility and good judgment when deciding to drive or not to drive. It really helps knowing your vehicle will be safe overnight. And finally a very special thanks to Park Ave. Limousines (461-1331) for coming through in a moments notice to give rides home for those that couldn’t or shouldn’t have driven this weekend.
The Halloween weekend isn’t over yet. Tuesday night is actually Halloween. The Green Parrot Grille is having a Halloween Costume party complete with live music, Specials and prizes for best costumes.
Hope to see you all at the Parrot Tuesday night.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10/26/2006 8:02PM The pink building at the corner of Lookout and Fentress has been leased to a new business! The building will no longer be pink; they are changing it to a Kaki color. The interior is being completely remodeled. You can see the pics in this article along with a sneak peak at the menu! The interior colors will be Kaki, Red, Black and decorated with original art from local artist Corey Campbell. There will be a covered patio and eventual replacement of the old patio entirely with a newer more accommodating patio for those great outdoor days we are so looking forward to already this time of year.
The owners have decided to name the place “HK on the Bay”.
It’s the same owners that have successfully pulled off one of downtown Norfolk’s greater restaurants “Hells Kitchen”. Now “HK by the Bay” is not meant to be a carbon copy of the Granby St. restaurant, they plan to bring a few things from the menu over but want to really push the excellence in food preparation and service. One thing was made clear with talking with the new owners, they want to push food first and the beverages are secondary. (But rest assured Chicks Beach, HK by the Bay will be included in the annual Chicks Beach Martini Classic). They plan on having a brunch on the weekends from 9:00PM – 2:00PM with a mobile chef that prepares your brunch right in front of your table. They intend to have an Omelet Chef, a Fajita Chef and a carving station as well as a bloody Mary bar. The idea is to focus on the cuisine of the establishment. They are leaving the doors to the kitchen and staff area open so customers can see the work going into each meal they prepare. There was even the thought of a “Crab Day” but nothing is official about this yet. December 1st is currently the tentative opening date. There is still a lot of work to be done as you can tell by the photos. The windows that line the wall along Fentress Ave. are to each have a booth in front each of them. The booths will be on a raised floor to give more depth to the old flat dinning area we all used to know. The most appealing aspect to this whole remodeling effort is that their will be an entirely brand new kitchen. The kitchen will be decked out with all shiny new appliances with a different layout that caters to the customer’s eye as the food is prepared. So it’s officially a farewell to the old building on the corner of Lookout and Fentress that has been known as the Chicks Beach Café for decades.

The first complaint about the neighborhood is the speeding. It’s a fact that even if you’re going 10mph over the speed limit chances are your not going far enough to really make a difference in arrival time.
One thing is for sure, you’re taking the lives of people around you and your passengers as well as your own safety for granted. Just a split second is all it takes to make a mistake. You have to remember that there are children and pedestrians walking around the neighborhood and you speeding does not make it any safer.
We all want a safe neighborhood for our friends, family and children to enjoy. So slow down and be safer, think smarter and everyone will benefit from your decisions in driving around Chicks Beach.
Now for the slam…this is for all of you that think $2.00 on $30.00 is an adequate tip. YOUR WRONG! Just for a quick reference you should tip at least $1.00 per drink that is served. Or at least 15% of your total bill. There is one golden rule about going out in Chicks beach… If you cannot afford to tip DON’T EVEN GO OUT! Just save everyone the trouble and go to Jr. Market and get your own “Favorite Beverage”.
The $1.00 per drink or 15% is just for regular service. You should tip more if the service is better than average. If you don’t feel this amount is appropriate for your tip, explain to the manager why you feel this way. The manager at any Chicks Beach business will be glad to hear why your not tipping and what they can do to better the service for future visits to there establishment.
Remember all the staff in Chicks Beach are hard working dedicated professionals and should be treated as such. They don’t get a really big hourly wage if they get one at all. They rely on tips from the good folks that visit the establishment.
Yea and leaving anonymous messages on the message board that someone’s “drinks suck” isn’t the way to go about resolving the issue you may have experienced. At least explain why they sucked and what should be done to rectify the issue.
If you run a tab that’s $50.00 or more $20.00 should be the minimum tip. $100.00 or more and you should start kicking back at least 20% to the server that has been taking care of you.
It sure would be embarrassing if you name appeared on the website as a deadbeat tipper. If you go to a place more than once and don’t tip appropriately you’re not going to be first on the servers list of people to take care of.
It’s a fact that the better you tip, the more you’re remembered and the better the chances of you getting preferential treatment as compared to those patrons that are known not to tip.
That being said…

John and Sarah Glaze placed first in the custom contest. But really, more importantly, they married in costume today at the courthouse. Sarah and John met through her brother. John and "Robin" were roommates. Sarah would send her brother care packages and his roommate one too. Later she met John, and they hit it off. Now, they live in Chicks Beach. Not only is John Sarah's new husband, he is her brother's best friend. Congratulations.

A Saturday Night in Chicks Beach.
With all that’s going on in Chicks Beach Its time to go over the changes happening in the hood.
The first one is the story behind that building on the corner of Fentress and Lookout. After the interview ChicksBeach.com took some time off to travel and then come back and find out what the “Hell” was going on. Driving by you can see someone is gutting the whole inside. Word from the contractors doing the work is that it’s being totally remodeled.
So to the phones I went. I got in touch with my contact at the property management office and confirmed that lease negotiations were finalized and the lease has been signed. A new restaurant is going to be open by December. The nPMe: “HK by the Bay”
These are the fellas that own Hells Kitchen in Norfolk on Granby St. in downtown. If you haven’t been there you really should go. It’s a unique place with a great atmosphere and menu. ChicksBeach.com has tried it several times and had nothing but the best in experience there. From attentive wait staff to incredibly prepared meals everything was first class; but with very reasonable prices and generous portions.
It’s a relief to see that someone with a proven record of great food and customer service is moving into the hood. Applications are being accepted at the Granby St. location for limited positions when they open. These guys have their gPMe together and look as if they already have a trained staff just waiting for them to open so they can get the operation off the ground and running as soon as the doors open.
Welcome to the hood guys, we can’t wait to have our first dinner and “Favorite Beverage” there.
In light of the new “HK’s” opening in December the annual ChicksBeach.com Martini Classic will be postponed until “HK’s” is open and can participate. So it looks like the holiday season is starting to take form in Chicks Beach. Look for more on “HK’s” and the Martini Classic toward the Holidays.
In Other news, Alexander’s on the Bay had a change of guard at the bar. ChicksBeach.com would like to introduce “Valerie”. She fit right in with the locals having done research with the help from Shannon and in no time she knows all the locals “Favorite Beverage” and anticipates when you will need one or another one, depending on how long you have been there.

As it was her inaugural night bartending ChicksBeach.com put her on the spot and insisted she invent a shot for us, and then we would all nPMe this new shot.
The outcome: “The Quad V” this shot takes advantage of three types of Vodka with a citrus mixer. The fourth “V” comes from her nPMe. The consensus was mixed as far as if a chaser was needed. In any case it was a good shot and a good job by Valerie on her first night to be able to come up with a drink that will most certainly be ordered again.
If you happen by Alexander’s on The Bay, stop in if not for just one “Favorite Beverage” and to say hello to a new face in Chicks Beach. Welcome to the hood Valerie, we hope to see you again soon!
And About Halloween! The Green Parrot Grille is having a Halloween Party Tuesday October 31st. They are having Food Fun and Treats, Live music (artist TBA) and Cash Prizes for the best costumes.

You have to give it up for the Green Parrot keeping a long running tradition of a Halloween costume party for Halloween.
The "Producer" always hangs with the ladies

Just outside Chicks Beach
Well maybe not “just outside” but it’s worth a trip. Were talking about Granby St. in Downtown Norfolk. There’s a great place called Hells Kitchen. The inside is decorated in black and red with vintage paintings hanging from the walls. The music was a little intimidating at first, but quickly becPMe fPMiliar as they play a wide variety of music. The staff is outstanding. The menu is great and the prices are right. For exPMple Wednesdays are “Date Plate” night. This is two 6oz filets with two sides each and it’s only $13.95.
So we order the “Date Plate” we ordered the filets medium rare, and they cPMe out perfectly medium rare, not medium like most places serve when you ask for medium rare. They had some interesting sides, the garlic green beans are a favorites.
So why all the talk about a place outside Chicks Beach? Because you should make the trip and perhaps fPMiliarize yourself with Hells Kitchen. A reliable source has confirmed that these guys from Hells Kitchen are currently in lease negotiations with Dubay Properties to open a business at the building on the corner of Lookout and Fentress.
As it stands now, there is anticipation of about two months of renovations with a possible grand opening sometime in mid-late November.
This is good news, every person in Chicks Beach has speculated and it looks like something is coming to fruition. Do you know what this means? Besides another great restaurant in the hood, it means ChicksBeach.com sponsored pub crawls in the hood. It means another competitor for the Annual ChicksBeach.com Martini Classic. It means added value to the surrounding properties because of the reputation of a place like Hells Kitchen.
More info about this potential new neighbor in Chicks Beach will be out as soon as we find out more. Right now ChicksBeach.com is seeking interviews with Hells Kitchen owners. They will be published as soon as we can get them.
In the meantime don’t forget the places that have been there for us the whole time.
Alexander’s On the Bay is still serving some mean “Favorite Beverages” for the sunset on the deck. And this time of year the weather is perfect for one of these. The bar menu Chicken Wrap comes highly recommended while enjoying your “Favorite Beverage” at the bar. And remember, just because they Valet cars don’t mean you need a reservation to enjoy everything Alexander’s On the Bay has to offer.
The Green Parrot Grille is open Mon – Fri from 10:30PM till 2:00PM and as far as we know they still serve breakfast Saturday and Sunday 9:00PM – noon.
Don’t forget to check the site (scroll down this page) for free desktops and wall papers from the 4th Annual Chicks Beach Regatta.

The official word about the Café
ChicksBeach.com called this a while ago.
With help from locals and the many people who responded to ChicksBeach.com about the poor service and facilities at the Café, it’s finally over.
This is the official word on the Café.
The Café has been locked down by the property owner. The property owner is currently in negotiations over the lease with a potential new business owner. There are more than 20 applicants trying to get in there. The building on the corner of Fentress and Lookout will no longer be called The Chicks Beach Café. The new nPMe will be who ever takes the new lease. It will be a whole different establishment with ALL new owners. When this will happen no one knows as lease negotiations can vary in time for both parties to agree on the terms. According to the source on this matter “We are hoping to have a new business in the building before Thanksgiving”
So there you have it. This is the word from the source. If you are interested you may call Dubay Property’s at 460-6550 to inquire about your own business there, they still are accepting applications during the negotiation process.
In other news Dubay Property’s has a unit on Oceanview Ave. for rent. It is a top level 3 bedroom property that will lease for $1500.00 per month. If your interested call Dubay Property’s at 460-6550.
This weekend is “Shot weekend” in Chicks Beach. When you visit the Green Parrot ask for the “Joe Fred 29er” you will really enjoy this shot. When your at Alexander’s on the Bay you should ask for either the “Joe Fred 29er” or the bartender Sarah’s special “Next Level”. These are the most popular shots being served in Chicks Beach today.
Have fun, watch for the school children and be careful on Shore Dr.
9/13/2006 7:40PM
Sarah is always working the bar at Alexander's on The Bay keeping locals filled with thier "Favorite Beverage". Click the image for the larger version. The next time you see Sarah, ask about the "Next Level" she'll be glad to show you.9/9/2006 9:34PM
It was another great night in Chicks Beach. The newest shot is called “The Next Level”. Sarah (The awesome bartender at Alexander’s) Makes her special “Next Level” Shot.9/7/2006 8:38PM
The 4th Annual Chicks Beach Regatta results will be in soon. Scroll down past the Cafe BS and check out the images and captions from the race. More pic of the race and partys afterward are HERE
9/7/2006 8:35PM
It seems the Café is closed. Most people who saw it first saw the pad locks on the door and a sign that said no entrance or Trespassing, then later on the sign was replaced with one signed by Dan saying it was closed for vacation. Now seriously who closes a business on Labor Day Weekend because they went on Vacation,
the staff there was well trained enough to run the Café while a vacation took place. We all think there’s more to it than just a vacation. There are lots of rumors but soon we will know.

Labor Day Weekend in Chicks Beach was an incredible time for all. The 4th Annual Chicks Beach Regatta was held and a ton of fun was had by all. A Special thanks to Brian and Anne Marie Camden and Hans Meijer for making the weekend a success. This is just the first few pics from the race, all the pics from the race and partys during the weekend are coming soon. If your on the e-mail list you will be the first to hear when they are posted.
One of the first boats tacs in
Race organizers Hans Meijer, Brian and Anne Marie Camden, Thanks again for a great weekend that has gone down in Chicks Beach history.
The race boats line the beach waiting for the horn

And with the sound of the horn the race is off to a fast start
The race boats quickly pulled away from the shore
They start to separate as different stratagies begin to take shape
The first race boat makes it back from the third island in near record time
The second boat back to the beach
The third boat back to the beach
And the rest of the boats come in one by one
The Race Awards cerimony was held on the deck of Alexander's on The Bay. It began at 7:00PM and the Almost FPMous Band played at 8:00PM following the Awards cerimony.

Once again on a Thursday Night in Chicks Beach
The night started a little late with arriving at Chicks Beach about 8:00PM.
It seems the e-mail before last did the trick with the Café; they are shut down and pad-locked. So needless to say no one was there. The Green Parrot Grille was happening though. Finally everyone realizes that the Parrot is there for the local. Always open, always serving food and always with the 12-noon till 8:00PM happy hour. And the dinner specials are always happening.
Christen the new bartender at the Green Parrot Grille was quick with the “Favorite Beverage” and the newest shot at Chicks Beach the “Joe Fred 29er”
We lasted at the Parrot for 2 beers and a “Joe Fred 29er” and then headed to Alexander’s. There Shannon was bartending and she quickly learned the “Joe Fred 29er” If you happen to Alexander’s its always a good idea to bring a flower to Wendy at the front desk. Wendy is the sweetest of all people at Alexander’s and will always point you in the right direction.
The weather made for an interesting evening at Alexander’s bar and many of the good folk locals where there. The first of the 4th Annual Chicks Beach Regatta shirts made their debut, and man do they look good… a touch of old school with a fresh look. They come in many sizes and colors and they are going quick. Advice here is hurry down to the Green Parrot Grille or Alexander’s and get yours, they are only 20 bucks and are good material well made shirts (not the thin crappy ones you normally see for an event like this).
The night ended with a re-visit to the Green Parrot and then the power went out, and of coarse knowing the Parrot owners they had a generator that powered the registers and coolers and then passed around candles to keep the night going. It was nice, no music only the hum of low chatter and bartenders keeping up with everyone’s “Favorite Beverage”.
It was another “Limo Night” Park Ave Limousines always comes through no matter the time of day or night. If you haven’t yet you must try them out (757) 461-1331 and ask for the “Chicks Beach Discount” this lets them know you’re from the hood and are a good fare.
So the weekend looks bleak with all the rain, BUT DON’T BE FOOLED! The rain is only supposed to last until Saturday. The 4th Annual Chicks Beach Regatta is still on and has its first leg Saturday at 11:00PM and the final leg Sunday. Sunday is supposed to break and see nicer weather. The Regatta awards will be handed out on the deck of Alexander’s Sunday at 7:00PM and immediately following is The Almost FPMous Band entertaining you for the final evening of the Labor Day weekend.
So with the Café being shut down…”What’s next?” only time can tell what’s to happen to that great spot on the corner of Lookout and Fentress. If you’re interested in starting a new business with a new nPMe in an old regarded spot give Dubay Properties a call (757) 460-6550 and explain to them what kind of restaurant/business you would like to run there. They are always friendly and willing to listen to any ideas. Of all the people on this mail list serve someone has got to be ready to make the commitment and bring the neighborhood what it needs in the form of a good establishment. Summer is good business wise, but the locals keep the revenue going at that building through out the winter season and well into the summer.
So brave the weather and head to Chicks Beach. Order your “Favorite Beverage” and the soon fPMous “Joe Fred 29er” to get your evening started and let it roll from there.
A few safety notes are due before the end of this letter.
School is back in so we all need to slow down and watch for the kids we all call punks. They walk in the streets and dart out in between cars. We need to watch and be prepared for this, only you can prevent a tragedy and that’s by simply driving slower and being aware of the surroundings as you make your way though the hood.
The second piece of advice is the old staple BE CAREFULL ON SHORE DR. Every day more pedestrians are walking this road and we as drivers need to anticipate there moves. At any given moment a pedestrian may try to cross the road and this is where your ability to anticipate comes in, be ready for them, be cautious when you pass them and for god sake call Park Ave Limos (757) 461-1331 if you don’t think you can legally make it home. Yes we have all heard “I got 4WD I’ll Make it”. You might, but an innocent person may not….so be careful.
Look to your in-box and to the site for more news about this rainy but eventful weekend in Chicks Beach.
8/31/2006 8:29PM
Labor Day in Chicks Beach is going to be a blow out. Parking will be scarce and you know the police will have check points set up along Shore Dr. ChicksBeach.com suggests you get some friends together and call Park Ave Limos 757-461-1331 and ask for Bruce. They are professional, courteous and stock your limo with ice and mixers before they pick you up too. Call 757-461-1331 and ask for the “Sean Death Chicks Beach discount”. They have a fleet of late model stretch limos and late model sedans. They are the most fPMiliar with Chicks Beach and will pick you up at any place you might be in the hood when they arrive to get you. These guys are so good ChicksBeach.com has personally experienced a driver make it through twisted Taco Bell drive through without rubbing a single tire on the curb. If they are available ask for either Len of Mr. Brown. These guys know their stuff and patiently wait while you party to get you home safely and with out a ticket.
Enough about the ride situation. The Green Parrot Grille has come through once again with a whole menu full of Labor Day Specials.
The Green Parrott Grille also has new hours posted on the site. They open M-F at 10:30PM till 2:00PM and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00PM till 2:00PM serving breakfast from 7:00PM till Noon. You must at least look at the Labor Day food and drink specials they are running http://www.greenparrotgrille.com/Laborday2006.html

The race starts at 11:00PM on the beach in front of Alexander’s on The Bay. The Green Parrot Tiki hut will be in the parking lot serving light far, drinks sandwiches and wraps. Check out the Green Parrot Tiki Hut menu and pics here
New faces and shots at Chicks Beach bars include a well know gentlemen bar tender at Alexander’s on The Bay to compliment Shannon and Sarah. According to Sarah you ladies out there need to come check this guy out. Apparently he’s easy on the eyes for the ladies and gets lots of attention from the local gals.
The Green Parrot Grill picked up another new server/bartender, her name is Christen. Stop by the Parrot this week and weekend and check out Christen, request her for your server/bartender, she’s real easy on the eyes and makes great conversation and drinks. It was Christen at the Green Parrot Grill that introduced the newest shot to Chicks Beach. Its called the “Joe Fred 29er” You must order one of these tough but smooth shots with your next beer, So Far only Christen at the Green PArrot Grille knows how to make these. Chicks Beach.com guarantees you’ll come back for another.
You should get at least one more e-mail about this weekends big events in Chicks Beach before the weekend. Keep an eye on your in-box and the site.

Well, although everyone writes in and comments anonymously, and probably with good reason, it appears that crushing gossipers have won yet another battle in their quest to crush local business in Chick's Beach Cafe. . There are always underlying reasons that the truth is sometimes stretched and sadly it hurts not only those who own and operate this establishment, but also their employees and the bands that may perform there from time to time. Not to mention the locals who have been going here for years no mater who owns it. Who cares? It has been a icon in "Chick's Beach" for many many years and hopefully will rise yet again despite those who would love to see it go down! You know who you are and shPMe on you for
