September (early)
I have lived in Virginia Beach for over 20 years and have
friends who live in Chicks Beach. We always discuss what we think the history of Chicks Beach and in particular, Pleasure House Road was...but, I don't think we hit the mark. Do any of y'all have some kind of history, (or, source) of Chicks Beach and/or Pleasure House Road that y'all can share?

END OF AUGUST
Please do not submit my name or address, as with alot of other patrons, we fear the wrath of John. I have a long history with the cafe. Seems that Dan has a history of bringing bad blood into his extablishment,ie DEBBIE. I have been kicked out for just being a girl and a threat to her. She is gone, but now John is here to continue the bantar. I, personally, have never been abused by John, but have seen his abusive ways. Even his own wife is not safe from his verbal and physical abuse. It is about time someone spoke up.

MID AUGUST
YES INDEED I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT… and its ON at “Dirty Chicks”. Finally a place where beach locals are treated with respect for being an economic supporter of a local business. And the Chef is ON TIME… the man can COOK. Oh yea, Dirty Chicks Wasn't out of anything when we where there.

MID AUGUST
Just wanted to let you you know that my wife and i enjoyed our stay at chicks beach Aug 12th to 14th,we even spent time on friday night at Duck inn.We hope to come back soon.

MID AUGUST
Yes the cafe is out of everything, but it's not the waitress's fault! How would you like having to tell a customer that the restaurant is out of half the menu? It's got to be hard to be a waitress when there is no food! And hard to keep a smile on your face after the millionth person thinks it's funny to ask "well are you out of plates? Are you out of utensils?" Have a little compassion for those girls - it's just as frusterating for them and there's nothing they can dom about it.
(source: pop)
ChicksBeach.com is usually quite about things but we have to comment on this one: "pop" makes a good point, the wait staff is great its not thier fault theres a lack of merchandise at a local watering hole. - Good point pop.

Early AUGUST
I feel you on the café totally. I have personally NEVER liked the place. Of course it was "Finacee's" home away from home before me so we do go occasionally. Ha. I love the idea of the place I just believe that the service is SHIT. They will have 2 tables and take 45 minutes to bring you a burger and fries. That really bugs me. Now we usually take the few minutes to drive to CP Chuckers just so we have good food and service. They need a decorator. The place needs a face lift. Good base but not very practical. And the ones that have kept that place alive year after year should be treated with appreciation.

End of JULY Weekend
What's the deal with the Chicks Beach Café? Why are they ALWAYS out of food and drink? I was there for a weekend at the end of July…TWO DAYS IN A ROW FRIDAY AND SATURDAY they had ABSOLUTLY NO SEAFOOD!!! How the hell do you operate a Café that's about 200 yards from the best bay and seafood in the world and they have no seafood at all ! I took time off work and spent money on a neighborhood rental. Alexander's didn't let me down. They had everything on the menu they advertised and served it with a smile. Alexander's on the bay is My new spot in Chicks Beach from now on…come by, have a drink with me and something you CANT GET AT THE CAFÉ…WHAT EVER is on the MENU !

JULY
I was at the Chicks Beach Café the weekend at the end of July…man what's happened to this place? They are ALWAYS out of something. Miller LITE!!!! PLEASE MILLER LIGHT AND BUD LIGHT? On a Saturday AFTERNOON and had nothing until Monday afternoon…who orders the supplies here? I'm so sick of begging my wife to go to the Café only to get her there and they don't have anything they advertise or that she wants…I'm tired of wasting valuable bedroom points talking my wife into going out to the Café…Alexander's and Zia Marie is for us…

JULY Some Weekend
I notice something about the Chicks Beach Café every time I go there, someone is always asking for Red Bull, some customer always goes to JR. Market and gets some…then the staff or “Owner” throws it out. They throw it out with an unsympathetic attitude. I've been witness to this for more than a year now. Now I'm not going to name names but there is one person inparticular that does have a taste for Red Bull rather than an alcoholic beverage now and then…this same person also spends “Dollar for Dollar” what the best of customers spend and he's no chump tipper either, the waitresses are more than happy to greet and serve him. I've seen this person go to his house and provide supplies to the Café that they have run out of, to help them in a pinch…WHAT THE FU*K!!! Order some damn red bull and this guy will pay 4 times the value of a can just so he can have it. Isn't that what business is about? Providing what the public desires…that isn't called customer service, a little market research wouldn't hurt, Like why are they always out of things. No it's not because they are so popular it's because of poor management, not ordering enough.

July Mid Month
I had to write in to say that I saw a news article about calling sick and hanging in Chicks Beach all day. I did just that. I called in and went to Chicks Beach for breakfast and walk the dog. The Café was closed until 4:00pm. ITS SUMMER ! Open when people are here during the day!. Make seasonal hours!. I wasn't the only person looking for lunch and a drink that afternoon. Don't get me wrong I had a great day off, on the beach with the dogs and scenery on the beach. But winter time hours during the summer doesn't cut it. Somebody down there besides JR Market should be open during the day

July The 4th Weekend
The 4 th Weekend was GREAT. We had about 15 in our group and set up camp below Alexanders about 5:30pm. The Band at Alexanders was very nice and the fireworks where a treat to my two children. We had like the site said “A day on the beach only at night with fire works” Hope to see everyone again this summer
Lee Ave.

July ANYDAY
The month Started off like a nice summer should. The Café had a concert (lots a freaks there) The Café has been hoppin, but whats with the “were out of that tonight” response? I am tired of always being told that the Café is “Out Of” this or that. Man can we not walk down to the JR Market and pick some up? I know you cant buy beer and resell it but DAMN, order enough beer! Get another cooler! And whats up with the deal of no “Official Manager?” Something has got to give. I'll still come up there and have a beer (what ever is available) But I think If the locals press on the wait staff enough eventually the Owners will take notice. Lets all start by first asking before ordering “What are you out of today?” that way we have an idea of whats available.

June: This Past Weekend?
I guess the locals are the only ones that can now enjoy the beach. Seems they have made it almost impossible for outsiders to come and enjoy a day at the beach. Paying to park sucks and I for one will never step foot on that beach again. I have been coming there for at leats 40 years to enjoy the water and sun. They will not get my money, I will drive to Sandbridge and pay them to park, at least there is pleanty of beach and you don't have to walk a mile. Whats this no one on the beach before 10 and after 4. As far as I am concerned CHicks Beach is history and I intend to spread the word. All my CB mdse has been thrown in the garbage. The restaurants and cafe will no longer get my business either. THe locals wanted it so they can have it.

(source: A Hater who thinks parking and crowds are better in Sandbridge in the Summer) HA!

June: Tuesday
A 26 year old construction worker had 1700? volts go through him, was still knocked out when the paramedics took him to the hospital yesterday around 4:00 pm. An aluminum ladder hit live wires.  Channel 13 did live reports from the scene (around Lake Rd. and Fentress) at 5pm and 11pm yesterday. None of the other local channels covered it and not in pilotonline. Might have been in the newspaper today. Today, all channel 13 said at noon was he was still in critical condition. Say a prayer, he is only 26 !!!!

May: Monday
I was just writing to tell about an incredible sunny day at Chicks Beach . I called out sick to work and took the dogs down to the beach. Everyone else in the neighborhood was at work so the beach was deserted. No leash for the dogs today. They had free run of the beach. Of course the friendly man in blue on his four wheeler stopped and reminded me about the laws for having a dog on the beach, no ticket for me this time. Thanks VBPD! And thanks from Shelly and Missy for letting them play some more.

May Thursday
My wife and I decided to get in on the Alexander's action on the outdoor dinning deck this Thursday evening. The Chef there has really come a long way. The lobster tails where huge and the filets were coked to perfection. I hope to have more than a few evenings like this while Alexander's is still around.

May Saturday
Friday night was a big night in Chicks Beach . Hangovers where prevalent in 4 out of 6 people observed having breakfast at the Café the next morning. Conversations overheard included topics like hopping from the bar at Alexander's, to the bar at the Café then out of the hood to CP Shuckers for a while and then back for a night cap at the Café until closing. Some people didn't stop there. Some continued on friends patios, other walked down to the beach.
I'm writing this because I'm jealous that I had to work. I will burn up my sick leave starting this week.

May Tuesday:
I'm having an open house on Sunday on Pleasure Road and visited your web site for background information and history of Chicks Beach . I was absolutely shocked when I heard a rumor about Alexander's possibly closing!! We got married there about a year ago.  Can someone tell me PLEASE that it isn't true? Hate to see Alexander's go the same route as the Duck Inn!! :-( .

April Wednesday:
I was born in Virginia Beach in 1963 and have lived in Chicks Beach for more than 15 years. I have eaten at every establishment in the neighborhood so many times I can't count. I cant believe the rumors about Alexander's. I cant imagine anything else on that property. I'm sure the developers are going to make a killing, as they have on the rest of the properties around here, but for gods sake can we please preserve the things that make this neighborhood great. I would hate to see any other Chicks Beach land marks to fall prey to condos.

April Sunday:
Good job on the site. I'm looking forward to seeing the Reverend Horton Heat at the Café in June to bad its on a Sunday I wouldn't mind letting loose for a party on the lake behind the Café. Thanks for the updated Chicks Beach info.

April Friday:
I couldn't help but notice the amount of people home during the day in Chicks Beach lately. I myself have been calling in sick to work a few times to enjoy some of the nicer days with my dogs on the beach. I think Chicks Beach should declare certain days “Secret Sick Days”. When a bunch of us residents get together and take a date and all call in sick to work. Nobody has to get together, we can all do our own thing. Walk or hang on the beach in the morning, have lunch at the Café during the afternoon and then enjoy a cocktail at Alexander's in the evening. Thanks for not publishing this or my e-mail.

April Wednesday:
The Mayor of Chicks Beach enjoyed a fine sunset dinner and his favorite beverage at Alexanders with a group of Chicks Beach celebrities. They where discussing the usual things such as Sail Boat Races, Politics and Summer Parties, like the Fourth of July on the Beach at Alexanders.

April Wednesday:
Whats the deal with the Miller Lite guy not making regular rounds to the Cafe? The Cafe was out of Miller Lite Wednesday April 20th. Whats a person to do? You look forward to washing down dinner with a cold one and thier OUT ? Unacceptable! This is a tragidy that needs to be addressed and avoided in the future. God forbid they be out of Miller Lite on a sunny summer Sunday afternoon.

April 19th Tuesday:
I was in an establishment in downtown Chicks Beach when I over heard a group of locals talking about Alexanders On The Bay shutting down and making way for new Condos on the property and parking lot. I've heard other people talking about this as well. Its a damn shame. Oh well better get the momories of dining on the out door deck on the water overlooking the Bay Bridge Tunnel.

April Sunday:
"The Keg Record Champ" was at the Cafe Sunday afternoon with his wife from about 3:45pm till about 8:00pm on the patio. They had plenty of Miller Lite and Margaritas, appitzers AND dinner. They where met by the red headed "Massage Therapist", had conversation with Jessie and his friend Charles, the band and thanks to the service of Adele and Megan they never went thirsty.

April Sunday:
Things started out like a regular Sunday moring at the Cafe. Breakfast was being served and people started slowly fileing in. But this was no ordinary Sunday, today was the first Sunday of the year when it was nice enough to sit outside on the patio. Before you knew it the Cafe was packed and they even ran out of coffee mugs.
Bicycles from the locals lined the entire perimiter of the Cafe. A great morning was had by all. And a great afternoon too. Things finally slowed down around 2:30-3:30pm when Lester the Great Dane and his owners showed up. Lester was treated to a bowl of water and ice, while his owners sipped on margaritas. Everybody who came in or out of the Cafe had to stop and pet Lester, he was lovin life.

As the sun set more and more of the neighborhood folk came out to the Cafe to enjoy the first nice day at the Cafe and Open Mic Night. Paul Skinner was out of town (Brazil). But Don Gill and the rest of the crew was there to make the entertainment a night not to forget.

April Saturday:
"Joe The Coors Light guy" showed his ass at the Cafe (literaly). You see his was about to moon his drinking pal whe he turned around and began to drop his pants, his drinking pal then swiftly kicked him in the ass sending "Joe the Cooors Light guy" down on his face on the floor with his pants arouns his knees. "Joe the Coors Light guy" bounced right back up grabbing his pants, red faced as ever and tried to act like nothing happened. Everyone in the bar saw this happen, it was hillarious!  (source: anonymous Chicks Beach Cafe patron..)

April Saturday:
The local "Record Producer" was at the Cafe again enjoying his favorite beverage in the early afternoon. He left right before 7:45pm but not before bestowing his generous tip. And then stumbling back in around 11:30pm. (source: anonymous Jane Doe who happens to notice this weekly practice of his.)

April Wednesday:
The Jr. Market was out of Miller Light 18 pack bottles again. Off to the Cafe for beer went more than a few poor souls. (source: anonymous.)

April Sunday:
Another fine day of relaxation on the patio of the Chicks Beach Cafe. Noticed that the "Real Estate Guy"  had some decorative custom concrete work  done on his driveway. (source: "Keg Record Champ".)
